SITE ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey,

So I don't have much time, but I wanted to share the exciting news! Moz 15 just received our site placements and guess what I'm still a chemistry teacher... at least for the next three months. However, I am completely excited. Even though I didn't know what to expect, I didn't expect anything like this. But just because my mind is really frazzled, I'm going to copy what I received.

My site is in a rural area in the Nampula countryside (more matu aka in the bush). I'll be a chemistry professor at a Escola Profissional (Industrial School). There is another volunteer going there with me, but we will both have our own house. The volunteer I just talked to described the Industrial School as a Little Italy and is apparently absolutely gorgeous. I also apparently have access to a projector and pretty much all facilities. My house will be made of mud with a tin roof, but I will have electricity. I will be living in a neighborhood outside of the school about 5-10 minutes away. "It's a very peaceful location but only a 1.5-2 hour ride away from the city and about 45 minutes from Ilha de Mozambique (which is GORGEOUS!). The school and a health center are based around the Catholic Church. A central point in the city is a beautiful old cathedral. The school is small, run by priests and brothers of the church, and apparently well-organized. The director is an Italian brother of the church. (Now you have to visit me Armanda!). The classes are small and shouldn't be larger than 30 students, which is a dream here. I was trying to wrap my mind around 70+ student classes. I apparently will also be teaching technology/computers, unless I split English with the other volunteer. The school specializes in authmechanics and carpentry. The students live and eat at the school. There is a church and health center around too. The school has a beautiful campus with a computer lab also. Transportation isn't an issue because it's easy to catch a "bus" or hitch-hike. Apparently, food is limited in my city, but it's only a 10 minute ride by bus to get to Monapo to get food, supplies, and internet. And it's "godawful" hot in December and January apparently. Getting viewed as a money bank and unwanted attention might occur, but I don't anticipate this being too problematic.

But, guys, I'm completely excited. And I just found out that a neighbor 15 mins away (Moz 14) went to Providence High School! Small world eh?

Anyways, now you guys know. Be excited for me. I'm excited for me. It's all going to be good.

Yay. I also know that the pictures are non-viewable. I haven't been able to upload any. So sorry! I'm trying!

And thanks so much for the emails everyone! I'm working on trying to respond to it, but I've had model school this past week and have been busy planning lessons to teach chemistry in portuguese.

AHHHHHH. So many emotions. Luckily, Moz 15 will be having a fun long weekend at the beach. Yes, I'm going to go to the beach this weekend. I CANNOT wait!
